‘Mom, I can’t be in the army anymore’: Female IDF soldiers reveal hellish recruitment process

Screaming, humiliation, sleep deprivation and punishment to the point of fainting: this is how, according to the parents of female conscripts, the IDF treats those who refuse to join the observation unit female, for fear of serving in the army after the events of October 7.

After many female soldiers refused to serve as observers on their draft day a few weeks ago, their parents said their daughters received harsh treatment, including being called up for long hours and being deprived of continuous sleep, with the intention to “break” them. They were called, humiliated, threatened and cursed. They were put under real psychological stress that broke them down and gave them anxiety attacks.

One mother stated: “My daughter has suffered anxiety attacks until now because of everything that happened and how they were pressured to enlist for their service. All these practices were actually torture only to break them in office. They were told to sleep under a light and in a noisy place. They were also put in the sun for hours just let your face be scratched.

A few weeks ago, dozens of female soldiers who were assigned as observers asked to change their assignment after what they described as great anxiety in light of the killings and abductions of female observers on October 7.

In addition to this, many testimonies were published about the disdain in their assessments regarding a future attack and invasion by Hamas on Israeli territory. The parents of some of the female observers who refused to enlist for service claim their daughters were “tortured” under the scorching sun at the Tel Hashomer base and shouted at with the intention of subjecting them to conscription by force.

My daughter had an anxiety attack and that’s why she was referred to the emergency room,” said another mother of an enlisted soldier. “He had the attack because of his shameful treatment, to say the least, and his fear of taking office after what happened on October 7. The treatment of women observers and what happened to them it’s a disaster and it’s legitimate that they He wouldn’t want the position in the emergency department, he underwent hearing tests because of the screams he received in his ear My daughter said he was yelled at non-stop.

As a result, the parents of female observers are shocked and resentful of the military system. “Distrust in the army is already serious after all the events of the war, and in the end, the army chooses to ignore the problem,” shared one of the angry mothers.

These are many girls who came with high motivation and a desire to do a meaningful service, and decided to simply threaten, break and mentally. Everything that happened caused anxiety. She said to me, “Mom, I can’t be in the army anymore, I don’t understand how they were treated in such a horrible way.” Another mother said that after these incidents, her daughter he was afraid to enlist in the military in any of the possible capacities.

In response, an IDF spokesman stated: “Candidates who expressed little motivation for the position initiated a procedure and a discussion with the selection officers at the Tel Hashomer base.
